CGY will be the opening act for the feature documentary, Roll Out, Cowboy. Check out the trailer below.

Interested? Good! Here is when and where you can see CGY and it’s new best friend, Roll Out, Cowboy.

Brian Stockton: The Epic Story of My Life

Monday, August 30th, 2010

I have become pretty obsessed with filmmaker Brian Stockton‘s documentary series The Epic Story of My Life.

The series currently stands (if I am up to date on it) at 4 parts and 4 appendixes. I saw Appendix B: The Man Who Built My Childhood first, a couple years ago at the Central Alberta Film Experience and it was one of the highlights of the festival. More recently, while working on the CSIF‘s Canadian Diaries screenings, I had the chance to watch Parts 1 through 4 and now I can’t get them out of my head!

The series is as a kind of cross between the personal mythologizing of Guy Maddin and the informed wit of This American Life.

Movieola is streaming All The Teachers I Have Known (The Epic Story of My Life Appendix A) if you want to get a taste for Brian Stockton’s Epic Story of My Life.

As for the rest, you should keep your eye out for any part of Brian Stockton’s series in any film festivals you’re at or you can buy the first three films, The Saskatchewan Trilogy, at Amazon!

UPDATE (31/08/10):

I got an email from Brain Stockton who informed me that he has just a one-hour doc My Dinner With Generation X (The Epic Story of My Life: The Adult Years). A website for the film will be up soon but you can check out the film’s facebook page – complete with trailer!

Scott Amos: Weirdo Art Films

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Scott Amos is an unstoppable filmmaking force.
Seriously, I have not meet anyone with the sheer creative output as this guy and the work he does inspires me like crazy! It is so good!
I had the opportunity to meet him a couple years ago and he is also about the best dude you could hope to meet. Scott is the complete package and I hope to marry him some day!

I thought I’d showcase some of his work so you’d see what I mean but you’ll probably have to take my word on him being personally awesome. Head over to Oily Films to check out a whole lot more of his work.

Goths! On The Bus!

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Today, I’m going to repost a video that Bad Lit just put up for the short film, Goths! On The Bus! For those of you who don’t know, Bad Lit is pretty much the definitive website about truly independent filmmaking. What are you waiting for? Add it’s RSS feed to your Google Reader already!

Now back to Goths! On The Bus!

I was on the awards jury for the 2010 $100 Film Festival and when I saw this short film during the jurying, I wanted to give it all the prizes. Sadly, not everyone on the jury agreed. Thankfully, the audience saw things my way and Goths! On The Bus! ended up with the audience favorite award. Sometimes, there is justice.

Karen & Jaimz Asmundson, keep up the good work!
