The Back Catalogue

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Hey anyone who might be reading this!

I was preparing a submission DVD for a film festival the other day whilst talking with my friend, Jed, over the internets. He said that I should throw up some of the ancient films we made back when we were young and full of hope. So that is what I am going to do; try not to judge too harshly… we were young and stupid.

First up, this one isn’t actually from my youth, it was just something fun I shot on some super 8 short ends with my old roommates in our backyard last year.  Enjoy Short End Chinook starring Kelly Kykkanen, Jay Coleman and Deborah Demarais!

Saul Bass!

Friday, February 13th, 2009

So I was out with some friends last night and we were talking about how great Saul Bass is. Then it turned out my friend, Andrew, had done a sweet showcase of Saul Bass’ work on his blog: posters, title sequences, logos, graphic designs.

I’m just going to link to his post and save myself a lot of work!

Art of the Title

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

I am a huge fan of Art of the Title.

These guys run a fantastic website where they collect the best opening title sequence from movies and television then upload high resolution quicktime files where they can be viewed and dissected. When they can they even gather the DVD commentaries about the titles, interview title designers and provide all kinds of supplementary material on the credits.

There is nothing I love more than a well crafted title sequence!

The Greatest Music Video of All Time

Friday, February 6th, 2009

The framing! The turning! The freeze frames! This could very well be the best music video ever made… One day I hope to make a homage to it!

And by homage, I mean, rip it off.

Bonus – Calgary filmmaker Mitch Barany’s Summerlad music video. A close second for best music video ever made.

Twelve Shorts in One Year

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

One of the reasons (among others) to launch this website was because I resolved to finish 12 films this year. Hence, this makes an excellent place to showcase them as I finish them. Now the real question is, will I manage to finish 12 films in a year? I will be as impressed as you are if I do… probably even more impressed than you are.

So whats on the slate:

Two films are going to go before camera this month (hopefully). Since I appear to like the idea of competition to get me producing, I’ll be shooting a third short for the CUFF 48 Hour Challenge this weekend and a short for Calgary Filmmaker’s Challenge by the end of the month (if I can nail down a bar/lounge location).

Plus, I have three films that I’ve been meaning to finish (in some cases for years), so a big part of the year will be getting these off my conscience. So I’ve got a small edit, a big edit and a sound design on my hands.

That accounts for 5 of 12, so I better get on it… I’m already down a month this year. is Live

The site is up and operational! Please bear with me while I try to generate some content for it.

I’d like to thank James Reckseidler for hooking me up with a home for the site, Jason Reckseidler for helping get the site on the actual internet and Andrew Lindstrom for putting the site together for me. If you like his work, check him out at Tell him I sent you and every website comes with a free hug!
